An Evening of Stories and Inspiration

"Reading Between the Lines" is an event that celebrates the power of literacy and raises funds for the Marion County Literacy Council. This event will take place on Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm and will feature a lineup of inspiring speakers who will share their stories on the subjects of Stories of Transformation, The Importance of Access to Education, The Role of Literacy in Building Strong Communities, and The Impact of Literacy on our Lives.

FAQ

Will I be asked for an additional donation at the event?

No. A portion of your ticket will go towards the fundraising. You will have the option to make an additional donation during the checkout process.

What time can I arrive at the venue?

Lobby doors will open at 6:00pm. You will have access to the concessions. Theatre doors will open at 6:30pm. The show will begin at 7:00pm so please be in your seats by 6:55pm.

Can I purchase tickets at the door?

Yes, but please purchase your tickets ahead of time if possible. This will ensure that the lines run smoothly and that we have enough swag bags for everyone. You can purchase your tickets online at www.mariontheatre.org or you can purchase them at the Marion Theatre box office located at 50 South Magnolia Avenue, Ocala.

The emcee for the evening is the Executive Committee Board Member of the Marion County Literacy Council, R.J. Jenkins.

Keynote Speaker


William (Bill) Ross, III

William F. Ross III, M.S. is currently the Vice President of Hands Up Communications, an all-access language company based in Ocala, Florida. He is also one of the primary authors for one of the most recognized and utilized texts in the field of interpreting, You Want To Be An Interpreter? (5th Ed.) As a child of Deaf parents, he has been interpreting for more than 38 years and holds national certification (CI/CT) from the Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf. Bill is passionate about building mentoring relationships, studying American Sign Language, and accompanying interpreters on the journey of perfecting their craft.

Lauren Debick

Lauren Debick, APR is passionate about developing strategic communications initiatives and engagement opportunities that redefine what partnerships can be, through pioneering campaigns and collaborations with corporations, non-profits, government agencies, and entrepreneurs. She received her undergraduate degree in Communication Arts at Gannon University in Erie, PA and her Master of Professional Studies degree in Marketing and Public Relations from the University of Denver. Her mission is to cultivate a deeper connection within the community and have a positive impact on the world.

Yamila Acosta

Born in Cuba and raised in Miami, Florida, Yamila Acosta brings light to the Literacy Council. Acosta began her work at MCLC in 2014 as an ESOL assistant, eventually becoming a full-time employee due to her passion and commitment to each program. Yamila is naturally bilingual, accommodating perfectly to the ESOL program, but communicates through goals and personal connection with any student that walks through the door.

Jeffrey L. Stone, II

Jeffrey Lynn Stone, II is 37-year-old married man with four children. Jeffrey grew up near Disney World — dropping out of school at the age of 16 and immediately joining the workforce. During the 2020 pandemic, he earned his GED through the Marion County Literacy Council. Jeffrey now sits on the Literacy Council board. An advocate of adults furthering their education, he is currently attending the College of Central Florida’s Information Technology program where he is earning an associate degree. Jeffrey also enjoys volunteering in the community, and he currently helps Habitat for Humanity build homes for needy families.

Cheyanne Bukowski

Cheyanne Bukowski is a 27-year-old single mother of two who dropped out of high school in the tenth grade. A firm believer in God, Cheyanne is currently attending the Marion County Literacy Council to further her education, so she is better equipped to provide for her children.
